American Dream Exchange addresses the notion of the “American dream” as a dominant social construct in Providence, RI in 2011. Commissioned by Roger Williams National Memorial Park, American Dream Exchange presents different dreams of the Providence community based on interviews with 85 residents. In an interview, I asked each participant to write down their “American Dream,” and then read it aloud. Some of the participants were given a list of other participants’ dreams, which they also read aloud. Fact and fiction merge as dreams of diverse social classes and cultures become entangled.
